BNY Mellon's Pershing Climbs to the Top Spot for Brokerage Statements

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — BNY Mellon’s Pershing (“Pershing”) today announced that it has topped the list for Brokerage Investor Statements in DALBAR's 2018 Trends & Best Practices in Investor Statementsi. Pershing landed the top spot for the first time since 2013 due to a series of improvements made to its statements over the past few years. The firm was ranked second in last year’s ranking.

“Investors need to quickly locate the information they need and easily understand how their assets are invested in order to engage in meaningful conversations with their advisors,” said Katie Swain, director, Global Strategy and Product Management at Pershing. “We are always advocating for the investor and are thrilled that our ongoing efforts to make data more transparent, digestible and actionable have been recognized by DALBAR.”

Recent improvements to Pershing statements include a redesign—such as new fonts and colors, as well as better use of white space to improve readability—and a visual reorganization of how the information is presented. These updates helped the firm significantly narrow the distance with the top spot in DALBAR’s 2017 ranking.

In 2018, Pershing enhanced the statements’ content to include additional explanations and charts to provide investors with a better view on key metrics, such as net change in portfolio value calculation, return on investment values and account value over time. These latest enhancements helped Pershing collect the points needed to bring the firm to the top of the ranking.

“The more transparent these statements are, the higher the level of trust between the advisor and the investor,” added Swain. “We are committed to making the necessary improvements to our statements to help meet investors’ evolving needs and deepen advisor-client relationships.”

i DALBAR's annual Trends & Best Practices in Investor Statements identifies best-in-class communications that assist clients in understanding and managing investments. Each year, hundreds of statements are rigorously analyzed to uncover the leaders in each industry, underscoring their commitment to Excellence in communications.
